It's probably because I am super tired all the time. Or, because I am really boring. I'll let you decide.
While you decide and read this all-over-the-place update on my life, please enjoy my latest musical obsession. I went through my parents' old CD collection (yeah...we still have those) and found this gem! I think it's the perfect jam.
Since I can't find one specific thing that I want to write about, I thought it would be fun to do short updates. So, here we go! Buckle up and please keep your arms, legs, and small children inside the vehicle.
Being home has been awesome possum with a side of cool beans! Chilling with my family, snuggling with my pup, and reuniting with my favorite hometown friends makes for one happy Cassie. My sisters are still two of the cutest humans on this planet and my brother, despite his constant attempts at driving me crazy, is pretty cool and almost as tall as me - what the what. Mom and Dad still crack me up and are rad as all get out. Life is golden back here in the humid South!
I started attending the Singles Ward here and...it makes me miss my rockin' 54th ward a ton! I am surrounded by balding heads and I feel like a baby sitting in the congregation. Most will tell you about their time spent at BYU as undergrads and how they lived in DT...yes, DT! I don't even know what those looked like! All I know is that's where New Heritage is. Don't get me wrong, it's a friendly and great ward - it's just different. It gives me a new appreciation for the blessing of attending a university where my ward consists of my apartment building. It also makes me want to get married ASAP so that I can get out of awkward YSA wards all together. Just kidding! But really. I guess it's hard to beat the 54th ward. RIP Freshman ward. But then again, hello new Durham YSA ward! Let's be friends.
This lady right here, yeah me, is a working woman! That's right! I work a lot! I have a job at a local preschool that is fancy schmancy and absolutely fantastic and then also a nannying job that fills in between my time at the preschool. Most days I work 9 to 12 hour shifts which makes for a tired Cassie but a loaded paycheck, so I'm not complaining! The preschool is not your regular preschool - we have a 5 star chef and use funny words to teach 3 year olds about breathing techniques to release their stress - but it's cool! I am learning a lot from their teaching style and the little 3 year olds who make me laugh constantly. The staff is also really great. Summer jobs have never been better.
My BYU guy friends are leaving me. For bigger and better things. Like teaching the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. And it makes me SO happy! How cool is it that we have church members, amazingly including young men who are only 19 and women at a mere 21, who give up two years of their young lives to go out and teach people about the Gospel? It rocks my socks and blows my mind every time I stop and think about it! Seeing missionaries in my ward kind of freaks me out knowing that some of my friends are out there right now doing the same thing! So when I get back in the fall, I will have a total of about five male friends. It's cool though because all my friends that are leaving me? Yeah, they are all going to be marvelous.
An exciting thing that has recently popped up is a trip in the works that would combine two of the greatest things known to man. Great friends and the historical sites of Palmyra, New York! I will fill you in more as I find out the details myself - but let's just say, my little heart could explode from excitement. Road trip up the best coast with the ultimate playlist and people completed by a night of Church history played out by fake Nephites and Lamanites? Yes, please.
Lately, I have been trying to embrace my hometown culture. Don't be surprised if I come back to BYU with a little bit of a Southern twang and know all the words to the hottest Country hits and refer to you as "honey". Don't lie, you'll love it. I love driving down the highway surrounded by giant trees. They're pretty and help me breathe so I kind of love them.
Now this is random, but I am so glad that I am not a sister wife. I stumbled upon that show tonight and...wowzers. I am literally quoting wife #3, "I didn't want to be wife #1 because I don't want to be married to a man by myself." Isn't that what marriage is? A union between two people? It made me laugh out loud a little bit.
I'm trying to think of anything else that is going on...but nope. Can't think of anything. As soon as I do, I will let you know. Pinky promise.
So to bid farewell, here is another song to add to your summer play list. A true islander introduced me to this flirty find and I hope you blast it as you sit on the beach and kiss someone 'till the sun goes down. ;)
Love you all. Make good choices. Remember who you are. Be good.
Xoxo
Hey, I totally played one of those fake Lamanites one year! And I fought and was killed by my brother, a fake Nephite.
ReplyDeleteBrian, obviously you learned that good always conquers evil the hard way. Sorry to hear about your brother's betrayal and your death; my condolences. Love, love, love reading your posts about Iceland. You're one of those marvelous missionaries I wrote about! Miss you, kid. Good luck!
